5 fitness tips for busy work days!

The new term is in full swing and if you feel like me, the days are just flying by! The beginning of a new year and new term is so exciting with so much motivation and drive, yet it can sometimes still feel overwhelming.

It is great to take some time out at the beginning of each day and assess both how you are feeling and how the class are.

When you concentrate on the feeling and how fitness can change your mood it becomes so much more powerful than just a few things to get people moving. That is the one thing that I really try to share with everyone that I teach and of course, you will always feel so much better after any type of physical movement than before.

Here are my 5 top tips to fitting fitness into your busy school days:

1. Change your mindset

The morning is such a good time to change the mindset of the class by creating a 5-minute mindful start. This can be anything from jumping on the spot, to deep breathing, to Yoga at the desk. Seeing what the mood is and then going from there.

2. Creating a move a day

You could have a selection of 31 moves in a box and each day and one of the children picks it out. As a group together the whole class then does it, perhaps it is a star jump or downward facing dog and then creates a fun fitness board with each move. By the end of the month, the children can do all the moves in one go. This will be so much fun for them.

3.
Get some air

Take a walk outside into the middle of the day. It is totally usual to feel the post-lunch slump so get the students outside for 5 minutes. Maybe a walk, or a jog around the playground altogether. It is amazing how much this can energise your body and mind.

4. On the spot!

This is such a fun concept for kids. Pick a word of the day and every time you say it the children stand up and do 10 exercises, maybe 10 jumps, 10 seconds running on the spot etc. It increases energy and concentration, as well as being fun.

5. The mindful minute

I have spoken about this but I cannot stress how powerful this can be for both the teacher and the students. All it takes is one minute of getting the children to sit in silence and breathe, closing their eyes and trying to clear their minds.

I hope some of these are useful ideas and make a difference to your day! We would love to hear about any ideas that you have too.
