Haywood Academy

The basics expected by Haywood Academy are as follows:

1. Be on time and arrive at the school at least 15 minutes before your start time detailed in the app
2. Dress professionally (i.e. no jeans, no trainers and formal attire)
3. Ensure the classroom is tidy in the same state as when the lesson began
4. Do not use mobile phones in the building except in staff only areas
5. Speak calmly and respectfully to students reporting any issues to senior staff

This course is designed to equip supply teachers, teaching assistants, cover supervisors, and exam invigilators with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in our educational setting. The course includes the following key lessons:

1. Trauma Informed Practice: Understanding the impact of trauma on students and learning strategies to support their emotional and academic needs.
2. Safer Working Practice: Ensuring a safe and secure environment for both staff and students through best practices and guidelines.
3. Creating an Inclusive Classroom for Children with SEND: Techniques and strategies to promote and maintain positive behaviour among students with SEND.
4. Lesson Planning: Effective planning and preparation to deliver engaging and educational lessons.
5. Working with Children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs): Approaches to support and engage students with SEMH needs.

In addition to these lessons, we offer other essential courses such as Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Safeguarding in Schools & Colleges. Completing these courses will provide a strong foundation for your role at Haywood Academy, ensuring you are well-prepared to contribute to our vibrant educational community.
