One hour with Steve Carr – A summary of his latest webinar “Good Stress – Bad Stress”
We were recently joined by Steve Carr, an experienced teacher and a double Masters graduate in Relationship Psychology as part of our weekly Lunch & Learn webinar series.
Steve discussed stress as a psychological function and the important role it plays in our professional lives. As a teacher, Steve explained that it is often hard not to take student misbehaviour personally and internalise these experiences which in turn, can contribute to rising stress levels (particularly as a new teacher).
With the use of visual aids, Steve introduces the notion of managing the stress balance i.e. understanding and addressing the levels of stress before it becomes anxiety. He also shares several personal anecdotes one of which details a Year 9 lesson which acted as the catalyst for his approach to understanding and managing stress in the classroom.
Throughout his studies and experiences, Steve offers insightful advice and practical tools to help educators identify, understand and better manage their relationship with stress and to harness it in a positive way.
