Manage your wellbeing in the Christmas mayhem

We are just as excited as every child in your school in the run up to Christmas, it’s such a fun time of year and about to get crazy for you all.

I thought I would share what I do at the beginning of a month. I write down my intentions for the month as well as my own affirmations. I have been doing this for the past three years and I believe this is one of the most underrated secret weapons in our wellbeing world that is easily accessible.

They are the most powerful tools we can have for ourselves as they gives us focus and goals that are personal to us and not related to anything material: as this will never bring us happiness.

The best way to go about this is to take a blank piece of paper and write down any thoughts that spring to mind, don’t consciously acknowledge them, just write. Once you have everything written down, you can start to see where your mind is racing to and what seems to be coming up for you.

Then find what really sets your soul on fire, what makes you excited about the month / half term ahead and write it down; they are your intentions. Remember that intentions are not set in stone as circumstances change so keep them flexible, they are your framework.

Secondly, and a huge passion of mine are Affirmations. In every Yoga class I teach I ensure that all the students set an affirmation at the beginning with a strong purpose… I AM… it allows them to stay grounded and focussed throughout the class which encourages their mindfulness to grow.

“Affirmations are something so simple that help keep you level on a day that may be tasking and overwhelming.”

One of my friends writes her affirmation on a small mirror she has on her desk at work and holds it up to her face so she is looking straight at it.

I think it could be such a powerful tool in the classroom to get the children to come up with their own affirmations for the half term… even at a young age I would try to get them to start with I AM… I AM STRONG, I AM HAPPINESS.
